Economy and Business Group
The Economy and Business Group aims to build a resilient local economy and sustainable ways of making a living in Brixton. Our approach includes community-led economic initiatives, partnerships with business, and influencing decision-makers who have an impact on Brixton’s future.
The Economy and Business Group first met on 7th March 2008. Results so far:
- Organised ‘Local Economy Day’ event in Lambeth Town Hall, exploring the economics of local resilience and sustainability.
- Piloted the Brixton Brick as local paper currency with local businesses.
- Set up links across the community, commercial and public sectors to create a collaborative approach to building local resilience.
Current and upcoming projects:
Remade in Brixton: a partnership working towards a zero waste Brixton through repair, reuse, recycling, and making better use of resources locally.
Local Currency Group: including Brixton Pound for local business resilience, and LETS to build trade networks beyond sterling.
Economy and Business chapter of Brixton’s Energy Descent Action Plan: our contribution to TTB’s co-ordinated energy descent strategy.
